Dr Thompson graduated with honors from Saint Louis University in 1994 receiving a bachelor of arts in both biology and psychology. She earned her osteopathic medical degree from Midwestern University in 1998 and upon graduating was the recipient of the Dean’s Commendation Award. Following medical school, Dr. Thompson completed her Osteopathic Internship in 1999 at Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois.
Postdoctoral training included a 5 year general surgery residency at “The Jewish Hospital” in Cincinnati, Ohio. Following completion of her general surgery in 2004, Dr Thompson attended University of Mississippi in Jackson, Mississippi where she completed her residency in Cardiothoracic Surgery in 2006. Dr Thompson continued to pursue a two year adult cardiac fellowship at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia finishing in 2008.
In addition to community clinical practice, Dr Thompson has spent time as a clinical faculty member at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. There she received specialty training in mitral valve surgery working with one of the nationally known valve experts.
Dr Thompson is board certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. She holds memberships in the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, Southern Thoracic Surgical Association, and the Florida Medical Association.
